HOW TO CARE FOR A MONEY TREE PLANT

Before we get into how to care for a money tree plant, let’s learn more about this plant. Money Tree Plant (also known as Pachira Aquatica) is widely recognized with unique braid trunk. It is normally used as perfect bonsai plants which can grow healthily indoors. In natural living conditions, Money tree’s regular height reaches up to 60 feet. However, this kind of plant can do relatively well as an eight-feet-tall (or even shorter) potted tree which commonly appears in many households, especially Asian families.

Asian people believe that the money tree itself brings happiness, financial fortune and prosperity to its owner. So it is usually found in homes and offices. Famous for being one of the easiest plants to grow indoors, this braid trunk tree generally needs minimum care and infrequent watering. You still need to know some key factors though. So how exactly it is to care for a money tree plant? Let’s take a look at the tips below, I am sure you can grow a healthy plant.

HOW TO CARE FOR A MONEY TREE PLANT
Quick-draining potting mix

Fast-draining pot and sandy peaty soil are two key things for a perfect well-growing money tree. Otherwise, the tree will highly suffer from root rot. More importantly, the pot’s size should not be a lot bigger than the current size of your tree so as not to contain too much unnecessary water during drainage process.

You could re-pot these tropical indoor plants every 2 or 3 years. When the root grows out of the current pot, it’s time you know your money tree needs a new “home”.

Re-pot tropical indoor plants every 2-3 years
Suitable temperature

Money tree’s best growing temperature is approximately 65 – 80 degree

Indirect Sunlight

Place your money tree in the bright area where sunlight can not approach directly. This kind of tree can also do well in low light condition and direct light can make the leaf turn slightly yellow.

Low-maintenance watering

Since there’s no need to water your money tree regularly, this houseplant has good ability to grow well with only once a week (or once every 2 weeks) watering. My personal tips is to water it only when you see the top 2-3 inch of soil gets dry.

You have to water it deeply and heavily when the soil looks dry. Turn the pot every time of watering for better leaf growth. Besides those tips above, let’s take a look at some more tips on how to care for a money tree plant below.

Extra humidity

As its natural habitat is moist tropical jungles, money tree plants are humidity-lovers. They prefer medium-to-high humidity so keep in mind that you should increase the level of moist surrounding whenever it comes to dry seasons, especially winter. I’m in Arizona though (with very dry weather) and I don’t find it a very big problem.

In terms of Feng shui, it’s not a good idea to position money trees in your bathroom because good fortune (is believed) to get drained away.

Appropriate fertilizing

Spring and summer are 2 periods of time that money tree plants strongly grow and produce leaves. Therefore, for best results, you should feed your tree once a month during these two seasons. Remember to make sure the soil is damp before adding any fertilizer.

Fertilizing these houseplants is not necessary during winter when money tree’s growth is fairly slow.

Regular pruning and shaping

Trim off dead and damaged leaves frequently to maintain a healthy green look for your money tree.

For a prettier bonsai outlook, you can use pruning shears to shape the tree the way you want. Money tree plants originally have a round shape but you absolutely can re-design it by shaping it differently, depending on your personal style.

If you don’t want your tree to outgrow so much, prune it more often during leave-producing season.

All the crucial characteristics above may help you understand more about money tree plants and know how to take good care of those pretty little creatures. Owning one or some money trees as interior decorations can surely brighten your home with a more lively greener air.

I also shared 4 other perfect house plants especially for Fall season. Make sure you check it out.

House Plants for the Perfect Fall Interior

As we roll into fall, the leaves outside begin to redden. The days start to become cooler. The nights a little darker. It’s no surprise that many of us want to spruce up our home decor, to allow our homes to evolve with the changing seasons.

An easy, green way to accomplish this, is to change up the house plants in your home – or to add some if you’re yet to bring the outdoors in.

According to house plant experts, it’s a good idea to choose the placement of your indoor plants. You can choose indoor plants base on their light requirements, your own taste, and where you think the plants look best.

A final tip from the experts to ensure that it’s easy to keep each plant alive, is to group your plants. We can group them based on their watering and nutrition needs to reduce the chance of a lethal mix-up.

There are a whole host of vibrant, autumnal plants which freshen up your home (in both air quality and in style). There are lots of houseplants that would be perfect for bringing the spirit of fall indoors. In this post I’m going to list only four of them:

Amaryllis.

A quintessential fall flower, the amaryllis plant produces white flowers with red veins. They can also be found in pink and purple varieties. Amaryllis bulbs can be potted in mid-October or later. They reach full bloom in November or December, as the Amaryllis plant favors cooler temperatures.

Kalanchoe thyrsiflora.

No plant quite reflects the spirit of fall like the Kalanchoe thyrsiflora. It’s a rosette-shaped succulent. Its dark green leaves are embellished with deep-red edges, echoing the changing of the seasons, as the leaves on the trees outside turn from green to auburn.

These succulents look good all-year-round. However with enough light, they will flower in mid-winter. You can water it only once every two or three weeks.

 Cactuses.

One of the most popular indoor plants is the cactus. It is in this list for good a reason. They’re extremely low maintenance and come in all sorts of shades, shapes and sizes, so they can be matched to any style of decor.

One type of cactus – the Christmas cactus – is a fit especially for the fall season. They most often bloom during this period, producing beautiful pink-red flowers, embodying the hues of the fall season.

Oxalis triangularis.

Though this perennial is an excellent addition to your home in any season. Its deep purple leaves – which close each night, and open up again in the morning – add a haunting dimension to any room. It’s perfect for the eerie month of October.

This plant particularly favors the fall months as it prefers cooler temperatures of around 59°F or less, though it loves direct sunlight. Moreover, it needs watering no more than lightly once per week, though once every two weeks will also suffice.

If you’re considering buying some house plants for your home this fall, be sure to double-check their growth requirements. All that’s left to do, then, is enjoy them, as they brighten up your fall and winter.

Spring updates for our new apartment

This blog post is sponsored by Bealls Outlet, but all opinions are my own.

It feels a lot like Spring this time around in Arizona. That makes me want to add some Spring decors around the house. So I did. I got most of these decor items from Bealls Outlet, my go to store for affordable home products, kids toys, and also fashion.

Before we start going into details, I want to disclose that this blog post is sponsored by Bealls Outlet. But if you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love going there as you might see me shopping there very often and I shared on my Instagram story all the times. It really is my favorite place to shop while saving. I found so many great deals that would cost me double or more at regular retailers.

Okay now let’s get to the entryway first. I got a small shelf on top of the hall tree bench so I added some small decor items on it, and I love how it looks now. I got the birds, flowers, the pots, and the Home sign from Bealls Outlet for a very good deal. They all are 40-70% off compare to other stores.

The pillow was also from Bealls Outlet. They have many cute pillows including the seasonal ones. Here are the ones I got for my living area.

These pillows and throw blanket are from Bealls Outlet.

The throw blanket is my favorite, it does bring everything together in my opinion. See the peace sign back there? It’s also an item from this store that I’m soooooooo happy I got it.

This decorative pot + plant and the bunny are so cute. Got these 3 items for under $10.

Now turn around to the kitchen, I found some kitchenware and decors in a very good deal.

You can find big brands kitchen tools, pans & pots like (KitchenAid, Cuisinart, T-fal, Farberware, etc.) here for up to 70% off other retailers price.

I saw these kitchen towels and mittens when I was checking out and I knew I have to get them. They are perfect for the season.
Found these Cuisinart glass containers with bamboo lids for half their retailed prices
You can easily find cool organizing stuffs like this counter top fruit holder at Bealls Outlet at a very affordable price.

Walking to the bathroom aisles, I couldn’t resist these cute towels, especially those kitty ones for my daughter. I was thinking to get just one print, I somehow walked out with 3 sets of different prints.

These are for my cat-obsessed-daughter

I also got a similar decorative pot to the ones at my entryway, and put it here at my makeup corner.

There are so many cute shower curtains in the bathroom aisles at Bealls Outlet. I bought this sheer white one plus a clear liner for our bath/shower tub. Also a white shag rug under the curtain.

That was all I bought for Spring decor. I love that I could find these cute items without breaking my bank. Every single time I shopped at Bealls Outlet, I was inspired and motivated, since they always have new items coming in.

Besides the great discounts they already mark down, I was able to get extra 15% off everything. My tips is to shop at Bealls Outlet on Friday if you are under 50 (Monday if you are 50 years old and above) and join their membership (FREE).

You can also earn points every dollar you spend there. Again, sign up is FREE either online or in-store. Here is the link for you to sign up online.

Now tell me what is you favorite place to shop for home decor?

Living room update for Fall

It’s been a while since I did my living room, and since Fall is my most favorite season, I decided to switch my living room to Fall style with a little of farmhouse and vintage vibes. It’s finally coming together the way I want and I’d love to hear what you guys think.

I will link everything in my living room at the bottom of the post so you guys could check them out. They are more on the affordable side so no worries, it won’t break your bank. Alright, here is the living before I re-did it:

I sold my treadmill, moved the sofa to the other side

After getting rid of the treadmill, I switched all the items on the right side to the left and the sofa to the right wall side. I removed the colorful rug and replaced with a 10′ x 14′ rug in white with floral detail. Let’s take a look at the room now.

This is the right side of the room.

After selling my treadmill, I use that space for my daughter’s toys so it’s still a little messy. However it looks much spacious and come together now. The TV and the bookshelf is in the spot where I had my sofa before.

I took down the summer frames, replaced with DIY floating shelved and Fall decors. I also added 2 silk plants to add a pop of green, also 3 vintage wall arts above the sofa.

The egg chair stays at the same spot. The cream rocking chair goes to the other end of the sofa.

Last but not least, I got rid of the old living table set and got the new coffee table and side table from Ameriwood Home. The wooden finish in this light oak tone is truly stunning. They look perfect with everything. The best thing is that they provide spacious storage for tons of tiny little no name items.

I have been loving Ameriwood Home furniture since they are definitely my style and they are affordable. The items always arrived well packed. The instructions were easy, it took us less than an hour to assemble both of these tables.

The hardest part was choosing which collection to go with since Ameriwood Home has so many cute collections. These table are from the Marxen collection. They are available on Amazon, click here to check them out.

It is always fun to update the house once in a while. I will keep you guys update once the other side is done (I’m trying to make storage to hide all the toys haha). Anyway, here is the list of everything I could find the link for:

Now tell me which item(s) is your favorite in this room? Or what would you add to it?

This post is sponsored by Best Buy

We are planning to renovate our kitchen, transforming it from an old beige and golden tone into a more modern and minimalist style. The process of planning takes longer than we thought. And we are at the middle of choosing new kitchen appliances, since ours are too old now.

Browsing at Best Buy today, I had my eyes on one beautiful dishwasher from Bosch Home Appliances, and I have to share with you all, in case you are looking for a new dishwasher too.

It’s called the Bosch AutoAir™ Bosch 500 Series dishwasher. It automatically opens the door at the end of the drying cycle to let moisture escape and fresh air circulate for better drying results.* If you use dishwasher you know how a little fresh air can make the dishes a lot more dry. That is why I love the AutoAir feature. Also with AutoAir and the advanced PrecisionWash technology, the Bosch 500 Series dishwasher delivers a sparkling clean and dry.

As a family living together with our parent and siblings, capability is key. The Bosch 500 Series dishwasher with large interior provides loading flexibility necessary to easily accommodate 16 place settings, and the Flexible 3rd rack adds space for cooking utensils and ramekins, plus it can be folded down every other tine in one simple step to make room for larger, bulkier items while optimizing the rack space. It would be perfect for us.

Bosch Home Appliances is one of my favorite brands. Every Bosch dishwasher is ENERGY STAR qualified and meets or exceeds federal guidelines, for year-round energy savings. That is such a huge plus.

If you are looking for an upgrade in your kitchen, definitely check out the Bosch 500 Series dishwasher at Best Buy.

5 Ways to Add More Zen to Your House

People have been advocating a zen lifestyle for centuries as a way to achieve inner peace. Designers have taken on the ideas of those who practice being zen as a way to decorate homes. The simple aesthetic of a minimalist home is enough to get some to redecorate, but your environment plays a big role in you mental health as well.

Rearranging your space and making small changes will result in a more peaceful and harmonious household. If you’re looking to create a more mindful atmosphere, here are five ways to make your home feel more zen.

Declutter

Holding onto too many material things can start to become a burden over time. It’s easy to take a quick look at your things and feel that you really need them. Taking the time to really think about how often you use these and if you actually have a connection with them, you might end up realizing they’re actually just taking up space. Getting rid of unnecessary items around the house will help to make it feel more open and help the flow of your space.

Bring in houseplants

Being in the outdoors helps us feel more relaxed, and while most of us spend the majority of our days inside, houseplants let us bring in that feeling nature can give us. Not only do the colors and natural beauty help liven up a space, houseplants have positive effects on our health. Houseplants help to remove air toxins and can even help improve concentration and productivity.

Repaint

Certain colors elicit different emotions from us. Chances are, you’ll probably feel a different vibe in a bright red room than you would in a pale blue room. Light, natural toned colors relax us more so than bright and dark colors. Light colors also make a room appear more spacious than it really is, opening it up and giving you room to breathe. A small fix like changing your family room design to be a light grey makes everyone feel more relaxed.

Let in natural light

Just like decorating with houseplants, allowing more natural light inside can make a space feel more peaceful. Natural sunlight brightens a room in ways that artificial light can’t. Artificial light creates eye strain, while sunlight can help make our eyes healthier. Not only will opening curtains and blinds to let the light help with the room’s aesthetic, sunlight is free and can save you money on electricity.

Keep decor simple

Less is more when it comes to making your house zen. Ornate decorations can make a room feel stuffy and overly formal. Especially in smaller spaces, bulky decor only takes up room. When you’re looking for decorations that can help make your house more relaxed and open, look for versatile pieces to make the most of what you have. Decorative storage boxes, baskets, and ottomans allow even accessories to have a practical use.

Adding green to the room!

Looking back to all my previous blog posts about my house, I found a lack of green in my photos. And yes I really need to add more green decors in my house.

If you’re like me who is not so good at planting real plants, artificial plants (or silk plants) is really the best idea. Also, if you are a busy mom like mýelf, you will feel so thankful when you don’t have to spend time taking care a plant at all but still having that greenery looking house.

versanora1

When I was doing my mom’s room, I went online and searched for “silk plants” on both Amazon and Walmart websites. I immediately fell in love with all the choices from the brand Nearly Natural. I bought one for her room and she loves it. So this time around Nearly Natural is my top pick of course.

I picked one of the Dracaena in Wicker Basket and one of the Fiddle Leaf Fig In White Planter (same to the one in my mom’s room) to put in my small work corner.

They are carefully packed and shipped right to my front door. It took me a couple minutes to unpacked both of them. The leaves look so real (see photos below).

NearlyNaturalFloral also has a wide range of green decors such as silk plants, silk trees, silk flowers, silk arrangements, wreaths, garlands, swags, and much more. use code GET20 to save 20% off on http://www.nearlynatural.com

I’m starting to re-do my bedroom and will have a seperate blog post with all the details. I was thinking not to make this post but they are so beautiful and I couldn’t hold me back from sharing. Make sure to go check out this affordable silk plant brand.

Transforming a small dinning room

A neat and pretty dinning room is much more important than you can realize. As a busy family, dinning time is pretty much the only time we can sit down together as a whole family and we all adore that time of the day. That’s why I was thinking to make the space looks a little better.

Our dinning room was small and very messy 2 months ago. I’ve been slowly turning it into a brighter dinning room with the modern look. At this point it’s pretty much done. Only some decors needed for now. Let me give you a quick tour showing the before and after.

2 month BEFORE

This was our dinning room before I made any changes. It was just a place to store stuffs and that made it so messy.

The big table was belong to my mom and I had to convince her for so long so she would agree to get rid of it. It is huge which took all the space. And I just hate the color. I mean I was thinking about a white theme dinning and that old style table was not so matched.

So my mom finally let me switch it to the new dinning set. I bought the white mid century modern set from Costway and I can’t be any happier. I love the modern look of it. So does my mom and everyone else in my family.

My Smart Blinds is a smart home productthat makes life so much easier.

I also switched the old/broken blinds on the big window to My Smart Blinds and it’s just the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve never had to worry about opening or closing the blinds ever since it’s installed. I set the schedule for it to follow through the app on my phone. I can also control the blinds using my phone from a far distance. It uses solar system to power itself. So smart.

Then I added a kitchen storage so we have place to put all the stuffs that were always on the big table before. It is a beautiful white unit from the brand Nova Solo Furniture. I’m obsessed with how well it goes with everything else in the room. The more storage I have, the more happy I’m. I bet all moms out there feel just the same.

To add something cute on the wall, I got these kitchen wooden signs from Stupell Home. How cute they are? Stupell Home also has so many other signs that I think you guys might need to check out.

To this point I already feel so happy because I solve the problem of having more space while being so organized. Things were having their own places. And there are still so much of empty room. I also have room for those full with oranges foldable baskets right in the corner.

Those foldable baskets are from the brand Clever Made and are super lightweight. Plus, they are so afforable and useful, not only for at home. I also use them as grocery storage to put in the back of our car.

The lasted update was done this morning. I switched the old ceiling light. Yes I finally got rid of that old one. We installed this beautiful ceiling fixture from Kichler Lighting instead. It matches the entire room so well. It brings everything together and I’m so glad that this small dinning is now completely transform after installing this simple fixture.

FINAL LOOK

Again, I’m so happy I finally made our dinning room looks better. It’s a lot better in my opinion. But I do want to hear what others think. So leave a comment down below sharing your thoughts.

Lastly, here is the list of what I’ve mentioned above in case you want to check out these products.

  1. Costway dinning set (table and chairs sold seperately)
  2. My Smart Blinds
  3. Nova Solo Halifax kitchen buffet
  4. Clever Made foldable baskets
  5. Stupell Home wall arts
  6. Kichler Lighting ceiling fixture
  7. Misa’s highchair – Oribel

My mom’s bedroom got makeover.

IMG_2598

This is my mom’s bedroom. Yes she stays in the master bedroom all by herself and I don’t know where and how did she got so many stuffs. Her room looked so much smaller and messy because of all those items. She is the best mom ever who spends all the time she has for me and my daughter. So I made some change to her room so she doesn’t have to worry much.

I will link all the items I mention in this post at the end. Also, I forgot to take photo of her room before. But it was not going well together.

indigo5

First off, I bought her a bed frame. She was using 2 bed boxes stacked on top of each other instead of a bed frame. Her room always got some scorpions from no where so it was scary to sleep with those bed boxes under. Who knows if those scorpions are inside of them? So a simple metal bed frame will help her easier to see those scorpions.

indigo2

Then I got rid of her old mattress then got her a King memory foam mattress. And she LOVES it. This mattress is from Indigo Sleep and it so worths the price. I posted a couple reviews about this mattress on my instagram, check it out.

IMG_2593

Her favorite bedding set is from Beddy’s Bed and it zips. That means easier for her to make bed and to wash. I totally love the chic design of this bedding set and how convenient it is. Beddy’s bed is pricey but so worths the price, they do always have great deals happen all the time on their site.

frameiteasy3

The frames on the bedhead wall are from Frame It Easy. Like the name of this brand, they take care of everything from printing to framing and ship them to you ready to hang on the wall. All you have to do is upload photos on their site, choose frame designs and finishes. The frames are very well made with high quality and look so chic.

I also threw a light string on it to make the bed looks more vintage and warm.

IMG_2591.jpg

I added a shag area rug underneath the bed which makes everything go so well together. The rug is from Maxy Home and is very affordable ($99 for the 6’7″ x 9’3″ size with free shipping) on Amazon. Again, I will link everything at the end of this post.

convenienceconcepts8

I use a storage console table as a night stand for my mom since she has so many little stuffs. Its top is large so she can have enough space to put anything she wants. This storage console table is very versatile. It can also be used in the living room or hallway. I love the contrast color details especially in the door. This item is from Convennience Concepts, an affordable furniture brand that offers cute modern furnitures and is available on Amazon with free shipping.

She has a TV in her bedroom (everyone in my house does). There was a mess in this corner underneath the TV. It was an old styled black glass storage with all the things that she didn’t even touch. So I decide to bring them all to the garage and just keep those she needs to use only. There were total 4 pieces of huge speakers on the sides of that storage and they are dead. She didn’t use them either. She just didn’t want to throw things away (I had to convince her for a while to do this haha). Pretty much everything under the TV were threw away.

I got her this simple modern TV stand instead. It’s from Nathan James Home and it is a multiuse item. It can also be use as a bench in entryway or a storage in bedroom. There is a huge space between the TV and the TV stand which I’m still thinking what to do with it. Any ideas?

IMG_2592.jpg

In the very corner next to the TV stand, there was a small black glass side table with nothing on it but a super big artificial flower pot. Of course they needed to go away. A simple artificial tree with white pot would perfectly connect everything.

Then a set of mid century styled modern desk, chair, and lamp to complete the basic look of my mom’s room. These 3 items are from Versanora, a brand that also offers free shipping on Amazon with reasonable priced furnitures and lights.

IMG_2590

In the other corner is the Desk Bike from Flexi Spot. This is always my hiding spot while my mom is playing with Misa in the living room so I can have some me time and to get things done. It is a 2 in one table/bike for busy people like myself to multitask things while doing a little exercise.

That is pretty much her room now. I’m still doing some touching here and there and will update in the future. In the meantime, let me know how you decorate your bedroom? I want to get some inspirations. What is your favorite place to shop for home decors? Comment down below.

Okay, here is the list of all items I mentioned above:

  1. Novogratz Metal Bed Frame size King
  2. Indigo Sleep mattress
